The House Commerce Committee on Tuesday rejected a bill by a Lafayette lawmaker that would have required hearing-aid dealers to give a customer a full refund after 30 days' use if it is in good condition.
The panel voted 12-2 to defer House Bill 134 by Democratic Rep. Rickey Hardy, even after he amended it to allow the dealer to keep $150 of the cost of the device. Hearing aid dealers said they are working with Rep. Jack Montoucet, D-Scott, on a bill that would allow a consumer to cancel a purchase within three days of the transaction, and allow a refund for all but 15 percent of the cost of the device. The 15 percent would be retained by the dealer.
