New Orleans Mayor Mitch Landrieu in Oct. 2010The so-called "Tax Fairness Commission" is supposed to make their suggestions to Mayor Mitch Landrieu by March, in time for the next legislative session, in the event some measures need the Legislature's approval.
Landrieu formed the commission in December "to completely and thoroughly analyse the tax system in the city to make sure the system is fair, to make sure that is broad-based and to make sure it is equitable."
The 11 a.m. meeting on the 8th floor of New Orleans City Hall will feature presentations by Jerome Lomba, the city's chief economist, and Janet Howard of the Bureau of Governmental Research.
