"... (T)he preservation community supported the adaptive reuse of the brewery. Perhaps they shouldn't have, though, since it currently has 57,000 square feet of *vacant freaking space*. I'll say that again, there is 57,000 square feet of vacant space in the heart of the French Quarter in that one building alone. Most of it has been empty for *over five years*. There are likewise five failed condo redevelopments on hold, plus the Trump project *which was never denied any permit whatsoever* and the hundreds of thousands square feet of empty office space in the CBD. Development is not a magic bullet kids, and giving developers free rein to ignore zoning and planning considerations ad do whatever they like *is how we got into this mess in the first place.*

"I don't know what fantasy world you folks live in, but it's pretty clear you've haven't spent any time in downtown New Orleans in the last decade."
