Leaders of Jefferson Parish's two publicly owned hospitals meet today to chose any outside company to lease both institutions. The Jefferson Parish Hospital and Health Services District plans to hear final presentations beginning at 8 a.m. from:
- HCA, the Nashville, Tenn.-based health-care provider that has stakes in 162 U.S hospitals, includings Lakeside in Metairie, Tulane Medical Center in New Orleans and Lakeview Regional Medical Center near Covington
- Louisiana Children's Medical Center, which owns Children's Hospital and Touro Infirmary in New Orleans, runs LSU Interim Public Hospital in New Orleans and has an agreement to operate University Medical Center when it's completed in 2015.
- Ochsner Health System, which owns eight hospitals, including ones in Elmwood, Old Jefferson, Kenner, New Orleans, Gretna and Slidell.
The three suitors are vying to lease West Jefferson Medical Center in Marrero and East Jefferson General Hospital in Metairie. The boards of these two hospitals are meeting jointly as the umbrella board of the Jefferson Parish Hospital and Health Services District to consider the presentations.
If made today, the umbrella board's recommendation goes to the Parish Council on Wednesday. The council would pick a lease partner and authorize advanced negotiations with that company.
