No new regulations should be imposed 'at least until the economy gets back on track,' Stephen Moret says

With his boss now handily re-elected for a second term, Louisiana Economic Development Secretary Stephen Moret is pushing for several new federal initiatives he says can improve the economic climate in the state. Moret said that he'd like the federal government to consider a moratorium on new regulations "at least until the economy gets back on track" so that businesses can move ahead with new projects knowing that they won't face a new federal rule that would raise costs and potentially make the project an economic loser.

He also said that a reduction in corporate tax credits would be seen as a positive step by businesses. Reducing tax burden shouldn't be just for those companies with the political clout to get special tax provisions through Congress, Moret said. His proposals are similar to those issued by many Republicans in Congress and by GOP presidential candidates.

His boss, Gov Bobby Jindal, who will be sworn in for his second term in January, has said he isn't interested in joining the GOP ticket as a vice presidential candidate.
