Port of South Louisiana Commissioner Gregory A. Gravois of Vacherie died Sept. 17, after a period of illness.
Gravois, 58, a contractor who was the governor's appointee on the port's board of commissioners representing St. James Parish, was known for keeping a sharp eye on port projects, and was not afraid to buck the commission majority when he disagreed with it.
Gravois was appointed to the commission in 2000 and served as its president from March 2003 to March 2008.
"Greg's analytical mind on construction and financial issues was invaluable in the Port's rapid expansion and growth which took place in the last 11 years. He will be sorely missed by all," said Joel Chaisson, the port's executive director.
A successor has not been appointed.
