Health insurance: Selected Coventry Health Care of Louisiana to provide health insurance coverage to parish employees and their families.
Drug insurance: Chose Humana and Peoples Health to provide insurance coverage for gaps in prescription drug programs for employees with Medicare HMO plans.
Booze break I: Suspended the alcohol retail permit of Brothers Food Mart on South Interstate 10 Service Road in Metairie for the rest of the year, after several incidents of selling alcohol to minors.
Booze break II: Suspended the alcohol retail permits of the Exxon station at 2209 N. Causeway Blvd. in Metairie, Chris's Market at 3708 Fourth St. in Marrero, Greg's Food Mart at 4704 4th St. in Marrero, Greg's Food Mart No. 3 at 2551 Ames Blvd. in Marrero and Jace's Place at 9021 Airline Drive in Metairie for two weeks for serving alcohol to minors.
Booze break III: Suspended the alcohol retail permits of Southern Style Daiquiris at 5024 West Bank Expressway in Marrero and The Daiquiri Factory of Marrero at 1642 Barataria Blvd. for one week for serving alcohol to minors.
Booze break IV: Suspended the alcohol retail permit of New Orleans Finest The Daiquiri Shop at 8701 River Road in Waggaman for serving alcohol with an already suspended permit.
Drainage money: Gave low bidder Kass Bros. Inc. a $1.3 million contract to improve drainage at Livingston Place West and Livingston Place East in Metairie.
Repair money: Also gave low bidder Kass Bros. a $669,000 contract to make any emergency repairs to water distribution and treatment systems after a natural disaster.
Self-help libraries: Awarded a contract capped at $500,000 to low bidder Bibliotheca ITG for two years to provide self-checkout units to the Library Department.
Street work: Contracted with low bidder Barriere Construction for two years to maintain streets with asphalt and other small jobs at a cost not to exceed $4 million.
Vehicle cash-in: Raised the ceiling on a contract with Lamarque Ford, Empire Truck Sales, ITA-NOLA and Truck and Transportation Equipment Co. by $4 million for a two-year supply of vehicles. The contract, now at $6 million, was originally capped at $2 million.
Engineering work: Selected All South Consulting & Engineers, Digital Engineering & Imaging Inc. and Montgomery Watson at Councilman Louis Congemi's request to provide various engineering services through professional services contracts not to exceed $300,000.
Hoey's Canal: Added $625,411 to a $2 million contract with Linfield, Hunter & Junius Inc. to design and manage construction of improvements to Hoey's Canal between Deckbar Avenue and Labarre Road in Old Jefferson.
