Mike Mitternight has been a vocal critic of the federal health care overhaul

The National Small Business Association last week released its top 10 priorities for the 112th Congress, beginning with a call to convene a White House Conference on Small Business, followed by tax reform, reining in the cost of health care, and deficit reduction and entitlement reform.

The priorities grew out of the 2011 Small Business Congress, held last month in Washington, which included meetings of working groups on a variety of topics, including a health and human resources committee chaired by Mike Mitternight. Mitternight, president of Factory Service Agency Inc. of Metairie, has been active on small-business issues in Louisiana and a vocal critic of the federal health care law, which he thinks should be repealed and replaced.

Mitternight said he agreed that the convening of a White House Conference on Small Business ought to be the top priority. "It's been 12 or 15 years since one has been held, and while all the politicians like to say that small business is the engine of the economy for the country, it's hard to get them to step up to the plate for us," said Mitternight. "I think a conference would put the focus of everyone in Washington on us and make them understand our needs."
