The trio of groups has advocated for the improvement of the business climate in the parish since it formed five years ago, organizers said in an announcement.

Alliance chairman James T. Person Jr. of St. Tammany Parish Hospital said the group will represent the interests of thousands of businesses and more than 100,000 employees this year both at the state and federal levels.

"We will increase our profile," he said.

In Baton Rouge, the group promises to support higher education reforms, government efficiencies, tax restructuring, fair redistricting, adequate healthcare financing, and renewal of the Quality Jobs Program, which the alliance calls "a vital economic development tool."

Goals in Washington D.C. include increased storm protection, oil spill recovery, improved wetlands permitting, additional infrastructure- and transportation-related projects, as well the support of NASA funding for programs that would bolster jobs in the Michoud-Stennis aerospace corridor.
