Jefferson Parish has scheduled town hall meetings to help Lafitte and Grand Isle residents get information for applying to the NEG Deepwater Horizon Oil Spill grant program.

Parish President John Young's office announced that the Jefferson Business and Career Solutions Center will host the events on Wednesday at 10 a.m. at Jean Lafitte Town Hall. A second meeting will be Feb. 23 at 11 a.m. at the Grand Isle Community Center. Both events are free and open to the public.

Representatives will discuss the details of the grant program and eligibility requirements for residents, according to a news release. Information also will be provided on occupational training and job placement.

The federal grant program is designed to help workers displaced by the oil spill re-train and find work in other industries. Rougly $27 million was given to Alabama, Mississippi, Louisiana and Florida in 2010 as part of the U.S. Department of Labor's program. Louisiana's share was $10 million.

For additional information, residents are asked to contact the Jefferson Business and Career Solutions Center at 504.227.1283, ext. 239.
