On Thursday at 5 p.m., the Jefferson Parish Planning Advisory Board will meet to review proposed revisions to the zoning of Fat City.

A sweeping 2010 revision to the zoning of what was once Metairie's hub for night-life successfully pushed out "adult" businesses and late-night barrooms, and set new regulations for what officials hoped would become a pedestrian corridor. Development toward that vision is underway, with four new restaurants open and construction expected soon on a new health and wellness center.

But as the Planning Department has worked with developers who seek to renovate existing structures rather than demolish and rebuild, officials have formulated potential revisions to the 2010 zoning ordinance. The hope is to make it easier for existing businesses and renovators to meet standards.

The Planning Advisory Board meets at 5:00 p.m. in the Joseph Yenni Building, at 1221 Elmwood Park Boulevard, Suite 201. The board could vote against the amendment, vote to defer, or vote in favor -- in which case the Parish Council could approve the amendment as early as Nov. 6.
