The Jefferson Parish Council plans to select a company to manage both of its publicly owned hospitals a week from Thursday. Council Chairman Chris Roberts announced the schedule Wednesday, three weeks after the governing boards of East Jefferson General Hospital and West Jefferson Medical failed to agree on a recommendation.
West Jefferson board members have expressed preference for Louisiana Children's Medical Center to lease the two hospitals. East Jefferson board members favored HCA, the Nashville, Tenn.-based health care conglomerator. Ochsner Health System also is competing for the right to lease the hospitals.
