Public hospitals, flood insurance, Colonial lawyer and more in Jefferson Parish politics links

  • The Jefferson Parish Council peels back the veil of secrecy on the process of leasing two public hospitals to outside interests when it meets Thursday at 10 a.m. in Gretna. Reporter Ben Myers will be covering it live on NOLA.com.
  • The last in a series of four open houses to explain FEMA's preliminary flood insurance maps takes place Thursday from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. in River Ridge. The location: Room 1 at the Little Farms Playground gymnasium, 10301 S. Park St.
  • The Harahan City Council convenes in special session Thursday at 7:30 p.m. to consider hiring a lawyer for advice on the Colonial Golf and Country Club rezoning. Some council members are at odds with Mayor Vinny Mosca on the need for a lawyer.
  • Parish Councilman Ben Zahn got into a spat with Citizens for Good Government over its regular public recitation of campaign contribution from contractors. Adriane Quinlan explains what happened.
  • Kenner has scheduled a Sept. 18 sale of properties on which taxes are delinquent. Several dozen properties will be on the block.
