- The third in a series of open houses on FEMA's proposed new flood insurance maps takes place Wednesday from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. The location: West Jefferson Medical Center's Fonseca Auditorium.
- Jefferson Parish Assessor Tom Capella says rising flood insurance premiums for about 4,000 property owners suggest he should reduce their assessments. "If the federal government in its wisdom sees fit to make these people pay those numbers for flood insurance, then we'll have to help them," Capella told WWL television.
- The Parish Council holds a regular meeting Wednesday at 10 a.m. in Elmwood. Then Thursday at 10 a.m. in Gretna, it convenes in special session to consider leasing Jefferson's two publicly owned hospitals.
- Four candidates for Juvenile Court judge touted their experience at a public forum in Harahan. Barron Burmaster of Crown Point, Zoe Olivia Fleming of Lafitte, Connie Montgomery of Kenner and Stephen Petit of Metairie are seeking the seat in the Oct 19 election.
- The Jefferson Economic Development Commission meets Thursday at 9 a.m. Among the agenda items is approval of the 2014 budget.
- Attorneys for former Parish President Aaron Broussard have asked a judge to dismiss the last remaining claim against him in a class-action lawsuit over his administration's decision to evacuate drainage pump operators hours before Hurricane Katrina's landfall. If granted, the request would leave Jefferson Parish as the lone defendant in the suit.
- Harahan City Council members plan to hold a special meeting Thursday to consider hiring a lawyer for advice on the former Colonial Golf and Country Club. But Mayor Vinny Mosca called the move a "smokescreen" intended to delay the council's vote on commercial development on part of the property.
- The Gretna City Council has but one applicant to consider for its vacant seat when it meets Wednesday at 5:30 p.m. Jackie John Berthelot is seeking the interim appointment to succeed Raylyn Beevers, who was recently elected to 2nd Parish Court.
