West Jefferson Medical Center Chairman Chip Cahill said Tuesday that hospital officials will not reveal which outside firm they will recommend to lease the medical center and East Jefferson General Hospital.
Cahill spoke during a break from a private meeting of an umbrella hospital board, which was in the midst of hearing presentations from Louisiana Children's Medical Center, Ochsner Health System and Nashville, Tenn.-based HCA. Later Tuesday, the board will deliberate and privately vote on a recommendation. Cahill said he expects the board to brief the Jefferson Parish Council in executive session, and that the council will act on the recommendation in public.
The Parish Council meets Wednesday to authorize advanced negotiations on a lease. If it comes to fruition, a lease would keep the hospitals in public hands but let a private outfit run both institutions.
