WASHINGTON - Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal is getting a high-profile speaking gig -- delivering the Republican speech at the annual Gridiron Club and Foundation dinner on March 9. The dinner features a satirical show put on by members of the Gridiron, which includes many of Washington's top reporters.
The dinner often includes a speech by the president. In addition to a speech by President Barack Obama, or his designee, there's another Democratic speaker, Sen. Amy Klobuchar, D-Minn.
Jindal, who is seen as a likely presidential candidate in 2016, recently made news when he told fellow GOPers to "stop being the stupid party."
Speakers usually engage in self deprecating humor, as well as light-hearted barbs at the opposing political party and its leaders. It will be interesting to see what Jindal says about President Obama, who he has sharply criticized over the last several years.
As a speaker, Jindal will be subject of a satirical skit written and performed by Gridiron members.
Previous Republican speakers have included Texas Gov. Rick Perry in 2012; Arnold Schwarzenegger and 2012 GOP presidential candidate Mitt Romney. Democratic speakers included then Sen. Obama in 2006, and others who went on to run for president, including Democrats Hillary Clinton and John Edwards.
