The Mayor's Office of Cultural Economy, along with Jefferson Parish, the New Orleans Video Access Center and the local chapter of the International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees is accepting applications for a two-day training seminar to be held next month at the special effects studio Spectrum FX in Harahan. They'll be accepting 40 regional workers.

"The two-day intensive training will be taught by film industry veterans and union department heads," according to a news release from the mayor's office. "The seminar will include instruction on safety requirements, technical terms, use of lighting and rigging equipment which are skills required to work in grip and electric departments on feature films and television sets."

The sessions, held Feb. 16 and 17, will also go toward fulfilling two days of the 30-day on-set requirement to join the Local 478 of IATSE.
