A Mandeville coffee shop and eatery housed in one of the city's oldest commercial buildings was granted authority to expand its operations by the Planning and Zoning Commission Tuesday night. The Scotts, which occupies part of the first floor of the historic St. Tammany Bank Building at 201 Carroll St., sought approval from the commission to expand the business into an existing room that adjoins the coffee bar.

Scott Williams, who co-owns the old Mandeville business with Scott Discon, said they want to enlarge the kitchen and add event space to the small shop that takes up what was once the lobby of the area's first bank.

The commission, which had previously approved a zoning permit for the coffee shop, Tuesday night voted unanimously in favor of the business's new site plan. Williams said the six-month old shop needs to expand its cramped kitchen area.

The two-story St. Tammany Bank Building, located one block from Lake Pontchartrain at the corner of Carroll and Claiborne streets, was built in 1904.
