Crescent City Connection toll extension rejected by Plaquemines voters; Orleans leaning in favor

With election results in Orleans and Jefferson parishes still coming in, voters in Plaquemines Parish have rejected a measure to continue tolls on the Crescent City Connection for 20 years. Unofficial returns for Plaquemines show the measure was defeated by a margin of 56 percent against to 44 percent in support.

Plaquemines voters cast 5,407 ballots against or 56 percent and 4,234 or 44 percent in support.

With 237 of 271 precincts reporting in Jefferson Parish, the vote was 73,572 or 53 percent against, compared to 65,841 in favor or 47 percent.

In Orleans Parish, voters were leaning towards supporting the measure. With  192 of 366 precincts reporting, the vote 30,370 in favor or 58 percent and 27,081 or 42 percent opposed. 

The tolls are set to expire Dec. 31 unless voters approve the referendum.

East bank-bound motorists pay 40 cents with a toll tag and $1 cash.
