The center in LaPlace is staffed by volunteers from federal and state agencies who can assist with recovery needs, including non-financial help, parish officials said.

"While there's access to capital resources at the center, that's not the only purpose of it,'' St. John Economic Development Director Torri Buckles said. "It handles everything from business plan preparation to disaster recovery preparation and everything in between."

Buckles said that about 600 of the parish's estimated 1,700 businesses sustained some storm damage and urged owners to seek out assistance at the LaPlace center.

Representatives from the Small Business Administration Disaster Recovery Center, Louisiana Small Business Development Center, South Central Planning and Development, Louisiana Economic Development, Eliza Eugene Enterprises, and Accion are on hand.

The center is located at 2015 West Airline Highway and is opened from 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.

In other storm recovery news, Sunday will be the last regularly-scheduled pick up of storm-related debris. Starting Monday, residents who need storm debris hauled away should call the disaster recovery center's hotline at 504.256.1067, Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

The debris should be separated into piles for vegetative, wood and roofing material, appliances, and household hazardous waste and electronics.
