Covington officials are inviting city residents to either of two meetings this afternoon and tonight to share views about what residents "want Covington to look like in the next 10 years."

The meetings will take place at 4:30 p.m. and 7 p.m. at the Fuhrmann Auditorium in the Greater Covington Center, 317 N. Jefferson Ave., are presented by the city's economic development department as the first phase of a Louisiana Development Ready Community pilot program.

The city was one of eight communities selected by Louisiana Economic Development to participate in the six-month program that is designed to prepare communities to compete with out-of-state communities for jobs, business development and capital investment.

"This is a great opportunity for the city to partner with community and business, utilizing their input to develop and implement a strategic plan for our positive economic growth," Pam Keller, director of economic development department, stated in a announcement for the event. "I have no doubt that our 'Step Up, Covington!' mission to develop a long term strategy enhancing economic development and preserving Covington's quality of life, will be realized."

Residents, business owners and community leaders are encouraged to attend one of the town hall meetings. Everyone is also asked to complete a brief online survey that can be accessed here, on the city's website, www.cityofcovington.com.
