The St. John the Baptist Parish Council on Tuesday will consider a $125,000 contract with the River Parishes Transit Authority to subsidize bus service in the parish.

The transit authority provides bus services to residents in St. Charles, St. John the Baptist and St. James parishes for a $2 per-trip fare between 5:30 a.m. and 7:30 p.m. Riders must schedule a pick-up 24 hours in advance.

The bus service began in 2009.

The council also will consider a $31,500 contract with Pyrotecnico, a Pennsylvania firm, to produce a fireworks display on July 3.

Also on the agenda is a measure allowing someone who doesn't live in the parish to serve on the parish's Fire Department Civil Service Board when no resident has been nominated.

The meeting is scheduled for 6:30 p.m., and will be preceded by a 6 p.m. finance committee meeting. Both meetings will be held in the Percy Hebert Building, 1801 W. Airline Highway, LaPlace, and are scheduled to be televised live on cable channels 15 on the Comcast and RTC cable networks.
