Agency considers changes as it enters new phase
The New Orleans Redevelopment Authority's Land Assembly and Disposition Committee meets at 11:30 a.m. to discuss lien foreclosures and other issues. The meeting will be held at 1340 Poydras Street on the 21st floor.
The committee will consider resolutions on real estate policies and procedures and lien foreclosures. The foreclosure issue is important because it's NORA's strongest method for fighting blight, but it also has some community members concerned about what new owners will do to rehabilitate properties.
Meanwhile, NORA has a new director, former city blight chief Jeff Hebert, and is preparing to receive hundreds of Road Home buyout properties directly from the state's holding agency, the Louisiana Land Trust.
NORA created a new 16-member staff for taking and disposing of the properties in January when it signed an agreement to receive millions of dollars in funding directly from the state. But the state continues to review the agreement, which has held up the money and delayed the land transfers.
